Tottenham Hotspur Make £50m Bid for Mohammed Kudus – West Ham Reject Initial Offer but Talks Continue
Tottenham Hotspur have made a formal move to sign Ghanaian international Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United, with a £50 million ($68 million) offer tabled for the versatile forward. However, that bid has been rejected by West Ham, though negotiations between the two Premier League clubs are ongoing, suggesting Spurs are not ready to give up on their target just yet.
The 24-year-old Kudus is reportedly open to a move away from the London Stadium this summer and has made Spurs his preferred destination, should a transfer materialize. It’s understood that agreeing personal terms with Kudus would not be a stumbling block, as the player is keen on the project being developed at Tottenham under their new management.
Kudus signed for West Ham in August 2023 from Ajax in a deal worth approximately €41.5 million (£35.6 million/$48.8 million), with an additional €3 million in potential add-ons. He made an immediate impact in English football, becoming one of West Ham’s standout performers in his debut campaign. During the 2023–24 season, Kudus registered an impressive 18 goals and 10 assists across all competitions in 48 appearances, showcasing his skill, creativity, and versatility across the attacking line.
However, the 2024–25 season proved to be more challenging for both Kudus and West Ham. The team finished a disappointing 14th in the Premier League, and Kudus’ numbers dipped, with the forward scoring just five goals and providing four assists in 35 games. Despite this relative decline in output, Kudus remains one of the most talented young attackers in European football, and his versatility — being able to play as a winger, attacking midfielder, or even a false nine — makes him an attractive option for clubs looking to strengthen their forward line.
Spurs are particularly eager to reinforce their attack during the summer transfer window. Although they have secured the permanent signing of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich — after the young French forward impressed during a loan spell last season — the club is still in the market for additional firepower. Spurs were hopeful of reuniting Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo with new head coach Thomas Frank, but Mbeumo appears to be holding out for a move to Manchester United instead. Tottenham also showed interest in Bournemouth attacker Antoine Semenyo, but he has opted to extend his contract on the south coast, ending any possibility of a summer move.
Kudus has also remained on Chelsea’s radar. The Stamford Bridge club nearly signed him from Ajax in 2023 but hesitated, allowing West Ham to swoop in. While Chelsea’s interest has not disappeared, Spurs have now taken the initiative in trying to secure Kudus’ services.
Crucially, Kudus’ current contract with West Ham runs until 2028 and includes a release clause, as reported by The Athletic. The clause is only active during the first 10 days of July and stipulates different amounts depending on the type of suitor: £80 million ($108 million) for European clubs, £85 million for Premier League teams, and £120 million for clubs in Saudi Arabia. That clause puts West Ham in a strong negotiating position, meaning any club hoping to land Kudus would likely need to increase their offer significantly.
As the days tick on in early July, all eyes will be on whether Tottenham are willing to raise their bid or wait until the buyout clause expires to negotiate on West Ham’s terms. One thing is clear: Kudus remains a hot commodity, and his future could be one of the defining transfer sagas of the summer window.
