Ghana Police Foil GHC 1.3 Million Gold Robbery Plot, Arrest Three Suspects
The Ghana Police Service has successfully thwarted a robbery attempt targeting a gold consignment valued at over GHC 1.3 million, arresting three suspects believed to be at the center of the plot. The swift and intelligence-led operation led to the recovery of the entire gold consignment and the safe rescue of the intended victim.
Robbery Attempt Foiled Along Accra–Akuapem–Mamfe Road
The suspects—Adams Zibo, Massawud Yussif, and Kenneth Khartey—were arrested on Thursday, June 26, 2025, during a planned police operation executed along the Accra–Akuapem–Mamfe road. The arrests were made following a detailed surveillance mission based on credible intelligence received by the police.
According to police reports, the operation began a day earlier, on Wednesday, June 25, when authorities received a tip-off about a planned robbery. Investigations revealed that a driver employed by a gold dealer had conspired with another individual posing as a bodyguard to ambush and rob the dealer during a scheduled gold delivery.
How the Robbery Plot Unfolded
On the morning of the scheduled delivery, Kenneth Khartey was spotted and subsequently arrested near Akuapem–Mamfe. He was trailing a Toyota Land Cruiser transporting the gold while riding a motorbike—likely acting as a spotter for the other accomplices.
Later that day, Adams Zibo and Massawud Yussif were apprehended in East Legon, Accra, inside an unregistered blue Hyundai vehicle. Police believe the vehicle was designated as the getaway car for the operation.
A thorough investigation revealed that the suspects had not only acquired firearms and motorbikes but had also secured buyers for the stolen gold ahead of time. The gold consignment was believed to weigh 1.2 kilograms and was valued at GHC 1,350,343.53.
Gold Dealer Rescued Safely, Consignment Recovered
Thanks to the timely intervention of the Ghana Police Service, the gold dealer was rescued unharmed, and the full consignment of gold was successfully recovered. No casualties were reported, and the police confirmed that the suspects were arrested without incident.
The three suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators with further inquiries. Authorities have stated that the suspects will be arraigned before court once preliminary investigations are completed.
Ongoing Commitment to Public Safety
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety and combating organized crime, particularly crimes targeting valuable commodities like gold. The successful disruption of this robbery attempt highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing in Ghana.
Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activities promptly to help law enforcement respond quickly to threats and maintain national security.
