Justice Blay apologizes to Asante Kotoko squad following controversial comments

Former Asante Kotoko midfielder, Justice Blay, has come forward with a public apology to the club, its officials, players, and fans after receiving heavy criticism for remarks he made about his time at the club.

The 30-year-old midfielder recently stirred controversy by making serious allegations about some of his former teammates. In his earlier comments, Blay claimed that certain players engaged in smoking, and he even alleged that one teammate had been involved with his former girlfriend. These statements sparked significant backlash within the Kotoko community, with many fans and club affiliates expressing disappointment and anger.

In response to the outcry, Blay issued a statement through his JBLAY Foundation, where he expressed deep regret for his earlier comments. He acknowledged the impact of his words and admitted they may have caused hurt and offense to the club and individuals mentioned.

“Upon careful reflection, I understand that what I said may have been hurtful to Asante Kotoko, my former teammates, the fans, and individuals directly or indirectly referenced,” the statement read.

Blay followed this by offering a heartfelt and unconditional apology, stating that it was never his aim to damage the reputation of the club or those associated with it. He extended his apology to everyone connected to Asante Kotoko, including management, the technical team, the playing squad, and the loyal supporters.

“Asante Kotoko remains a club that means a great deal to me. It was a major stepping stone in my football career and played a pivotal role in shaping who I am today as a professional player,” Blay emphasized. “I will always be grateful for the opportunities and exposure I received while wearing the Kotoko jersey.”

In his statement, the former Medeama SC player accepted full responsibility for his words and actions, acknowledging the importance of maintaining professionalism and composure, especially as a public figure.

“This experience has taught me valuable lessons about the need for emotional restraint, humility, and maturity, both on and off the field,” he said.

Blay concluded by sending his best wishes to Asante Kotoko, voicing his support for the club’s future. He expressed hope that the team continues to thrive and achieve success in the years ahead.

His public apology appears to be a step toward mending relationships and restoring goodwill among the Kotoko fraternity following the controversy.
