Rev Owusu Bempah taken into custody again as authorities move to file new charges

Reverend Owusu Bempah, General Overseer of the Glorious Word Power Ministry International, along with two others previously accused of threatening the life of Nana Agradaa, has been taken into custody once again. Their re-arrest came shortly after the Accra Circuit Court discharged them on Wednesday, ending the earlier proceedings but prompting fresh legal action against them.

State Prosecutors led by Chief Inspector Dennis Terkpetey asked the court to discharge the accused persons with an indication that plans were afoot to press new charges.

Once the court granted this request, they were arrested. The prosecutors intend to file the new charges before the close of the day.

The popular pastor and the two others, Bright Berchie and Mensah Ofori were on trial after they were arrested for issuing threats, brandishing weapons and attacking Police officers.

The trio was subsequently granted bail in the sum of ¢200,000 two weeks ago with two sureties each.

However, the prosecution in the case has substituted the charges and slapped the defendants with counts of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace and threat of death.

The public prosecutor needs to separate the cases to ensure an efficient and swift trial.

Again, the three pleaded not guilty to the new charges.

The General Overseer of the Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah, together with two other individuals previously charged with threatening the life of evangelist Nana Agradaa, has once again been taken into police custody. This fresh arrest occurred shortly after the trio had been discharged by the Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday, effectively bringing an earlier phase of the case to a close.

Following the new arrest, the matter was brought before the Accra High Court, which granted Reverend Owusu Bempah a self-recognizance bail set at ¢100,000. The two other accused persons were also granted bail in the sum of ¢100,000 each, but with the condition that they provide two sureties apiece.

In a separate but related legal matter, Reverend Owusu Bempah had already been granted bail of ¢400,000. This second case involves charges against him and three others—Michael Boateng, Frederick Ohene, and Nathaniel Agyekum—for allegedly causing harm and unlawfully damaging a police vehicle.

These developments mark another turn in the ongoing legal battles facing the prominent cleric, whose high-profile status has drawn significant public and media attention. Both cases are expected to proceed through the court system in the coming weeks as investigations continue.
