Ghana and US agree on faster visa processing for World Cup travel

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, revealed on Facebook that special arrangements are now in place to speed up visa applications for Ghanaians heading to the World Cup.

The agreement was reached during a bilateral meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra on January 13, 2026, where both sides reviewed Ghana-US relations. Ablakwa said the US informed Ghana that special measures had been put in place to expedite World Cup-related visa applications, addressing existing delays in getting appointments.

The meeting, co-chaired by Acting US Ambassador Rolf Olson, also discussed progress in trade, security, law enforcement, and economic ties between the two countries. Ablakwa noted that visa talks were part of broader discussions on strengthening relations, with both sides identifying priority areas for 2026.
