Pius Hadzide Backs Bryan Acheampong for NPP Flagbearer, Urges Strategic Choice Ahead of 2028 Elections
Pius Enam Hadzide, spokesperson for Bryan Acheampong’s 2028 presidential campaign, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to make a politically smart and strategic decision when choosing its next flagbearer. He emphasized that the party’s choice for the 2028 general election must be based on unity, electability, and a clean track record.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Hadzide warned against selecting a candidate without fully evaluating their past, as old controversies could resurface and hurt the party’s campaign.
“If we’re not careful and just select anyone, past issues will keep coming up, and they’ll be linked to our candidate. That can cost us the election,” he stated.
He noted that the decision to shift from the previous candidate should not be based on emotion or internal politics but rather on the party’s best chance of securing victory in 2028.
“This isn’t about change for change’s sake,” Mr. Hadzide explained. “It’s about change that puts us in a strong position to win — for the good of the party and the country.”
Why Bryan Acheampong Is the Right Choice, According to Hadzide
Mr. Hadzide endorsed Bryan Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, as the ideal candidate to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
Describing him as a unifying figure, Hadzide said Acheampong is well-respected across all levels of the party, with no known history of factionalism or divisiveness.
“Bryan Acheampong is young, relatable, and has helped countless people — financially and otherwise,” he said. “I don’t know anyone in the party who can say they have a problem with Bryan.”
He emphasized the need for a leader who is bold, decisive, and forward-thinking, qualities he believes Acheampong embodies.
“If we must embrace change, then it must be Bryan. He represents strength, unity, and a fresh approach,” he added. “Where the NPP stands now, we need a leader who can take bold decisions and stand by them. Bryan is that leader.”
Bryan Acheampong’s Bid for 2028 NPP Flagbearer
Bryan Acheampong has already officially declared his intention to contest for the NPP’s flagbearer slot ahead of the 2028 general elections. His announcement was made during a meeting with the leadership of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, where he also sought prayers and spiritual support.
His candidacy is gaining traction among party members, especially those calling for new leadership with a fresh vision for the party and the nation.
NPP Presidential Primaries Scheduled for January 2026
Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party has confirmed that it will hold its presidential primaries on Saturday, January 31, 2026, as decided during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
As the party prepares for this crucial internal contest, Hadzide’s message is clear: the NPP must look beyond loyalty and past affiliations and instead choose a leader with the broad appeal and clean image necessary to win power in 2028.
